Why I’m backing Ros

I’m standing down as the county councillor for Histon & Impington this year. I’ve been doing the job for 16 years and it’s time I stepped aside and let someone younger take on the role.

There are four candidates standing in the election and Ros Hathorn is the Lib Dem candidate. It’ll come as no surprise to hear that I’m backing Ros and here’s why.

She’s truly local. Ros lives in Impington with her family. Her children attend our local schools. She’s a parish councillor.

She runs her own business. At a time when we need to consider how best we can support businesses as they emerge from lock down it’s valuable to know that Ros understands business.

She’s green to the core. From her time fronting the A14 action group when she found herself on the receiving end of the worst which Highways England threw at our community to her leading on the climate emergency at the Parish Council Ros’ environmental credentials cannot be questioned.

She practices what she preaches. It’s one thing to campaign for better cycle routes, which Ros does, but it’s another to be on your bike every day. Ros can be seen about the community on her bike day in and day out.

She has incredible energy. The old saw goes ‘if you want something done ask a busy person’. That’s true of Ros. If you want something done, and it’s something she believes in, ask Ros. It’ll get done.

Ros will be an excellent councillor for Histon & Impington and Orchard Park. I trust that the community will support her at the ballot box, 6 May 21.
