NOTE: This information pertains to the 2021 local elections and is now out of date. For the latest information read Can EU citizens vote in the 2022 local elections?
I’ve spoken with a number of EU citizens who believe they are not eligible to vote in May’s local elections.
They’ve been misinformed. Here is an excerpt from https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-8985: “EU citizens resident in the UK may also vote in local elections as long as they meet the age and residency requirements.”
So they still have the opportunity to have their say in how local affairs are managed and I hope they will take full advantage of it.
People who are not already registered to vote have until 19 April to register if they will vote in person. To vote by post, register by 6 April.
