A couple of updates from your local councillors.
Parking – I met with the city council (developers of the new blocks of flats) earlier this week. They are prepared to host a consultation event at the Meadows centre so that we can attempt to work out what solutions local people want to address the parking issues. Every solution has drawbacks so the community needs to work out what is most important. If you put double yellow lines on the corner of St Catherines Road with Arbury Road it will make things safer but will push parking back further into the estate etc etc. Do people want a permit parking scheme? The downside is that there is a cost for any on street parking. There really aren’t any solutions other than double yellow lines, single yellow lines or residents parking scheme.
The City Council have not offered to pay for double yellow lines so that will need to be a negotiation between Histon and Impington parish council and the city council, that will require pressure being applied by local residents. As yet I am struggling to get a response from the parish council although I have followed up this morning, they need to provide the materials for the engagement event. It looks like this will be after the elections in May.
If you have concerns please email the parish council and copy me in ros.hathorn@cambridgeshire.gov.uk . It would really help if local people could apply pressure to this issue to the bodies who can provide a solution.
Bins at the new development – . Cllr Martin Cahn and I have both followed up on this, I got this response.
‘Thanks for your email. Our refuse team are going today to fix a defective chain link which will increase the recycling capacity by half as one bin has been out of action. They will also be emptying the bins today and tomorrow.
Some of the problem is caused by residents not breaking up rubbish sufficiently so that it fits down the chute, causing blockages. This is particularly prevalent when people move in as inevitably there are lots of cardboard boxes that need disposing of. I’ve asked colleagues in Housing/Estates to circulate a letter reminding residents to be vigilant with this to reduce the risk of overflow.’
Please do keep in touch with your local councillors on this we are really happy to apply extra pressure on this matter as it’s important that it is resolved but we need you to tell us what is going on.
