RECAP the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough shared service are running two consultations. In particular the Design guide consultation is a really important document which I encourage people who have had issues with waste collection due to the design of the place where they live to respond to. There is a very high level of growth in our area and developments are being built where waste collection is problematic. If the design is not right it can mean refuse collections are refused.
I’ve heard reports of large wheelie bins in flats not being collected because bulky waste was piled up in front of the bins when a tenant moved out and the refuse collection operatives couldn’t access the bins. Is there a solution or is this an issue you face? Do you experience other issues? What are they? Even if you don’t have the time to read the full consultation if you have experienced specific waste collection issues, particularly if you live in flats or new build properties please either skim read the relevant pages in the consultation or even just submit your issue to the consultation. Officers can then check that the current proposals cover are as responsive as possible to real issues.
There is also a consultation on the waste strategy. Waste is really important and this is your opportunity to have a say. How we respond to waste is fundamental to how we manage a planet which is over consuming.
