A14 Trees The Guardian Picks Up Story

Cllr Edna Murphy (Girton and Bar Hill) and I continue to push National Highways for updates and fulfilment of commitments made by National Highways during the A14 upgrade. There are still areas along the upgrade where all the trees have failed or in some instances a very odd combination of species have survived (can you make a woodland entirely from honeysuckle?). Balancing ponds are completely silted up and promised cycling connections are absent. We are still suffering from the unnecessary removal of a pedestrian crossing just before the A14 junction. Edna and I continue to meet with National Highways representatives to push for remedial work and to push for commitments to be delivered.

Guardian journalist Sandra Laville has been working on a story which looks at how unaccountable National Highways are. Commitments made as part of the project agreement are left undelivered once the traffic starts flowing and no one holds them to account. Read Sandra’s article here.
