We met with Clarion and our MP to discuss particular concerns in Kings Meadow here’s a summary of issues.
Street sweeping and broken glass
Cllr Sunita Hansraj has contacted the district council to ask them to sweep the streets and pavements please, flag this to us if you think the streets need cleaning.
Broken Glass in Green Spaces
Clarion agreed to flag this with the local warden, although they were recruiting for that post when we spoke (may now have been filled). Please contact Clarion when this is a problem.
Maintenance of Green Spaces
This has been taken on by Clarion but Histon and Impington used to do it and were asked to stop. Discussion ongoing.
Litter and bulky waste
The warden will litter pick, they will also coordinate the removal of bulky waste as a last resort but it is individual householders’ responsibility to dispose of their own rubbish legally.
South Cambridgeshire District Council will respond to fly tipping and other environmental crimes, so if it feels things are out of hand do contact the council directly or contact a councillor.

Clarion Maintenance
In response to reports that some household maintenance wasn’t happening Clarion were clear, report the issue and pester Clarion, there is a resolution process and if maintenance people don’t turn up when they say they are you can claim money back. If you really feel things are not getting addressed contact us and we can challenge Clarion. If you have reported a fault and it has not been fixed you need to draw attention to it. If you feel the system is broken and you’re being ignored please get in touch with local councillors who can ask questions.
Highways Maintenance
Potholes, broken street furniture, over grown vegetation in roundabouts, broken drain covers etc
Please report it on Report a Fault in the first instance and if nothing happens get in touch with your County Councillor, Ros Hathorn who can push for action .
Street Parking from the Meadows
Ros Hathorn to pick up with the Meadows Centre and consider double yellow lines, which we’d need to persuade the Meadows Centre to fund.
Anti Social Behaviour, vandalism, crime
We are working with the police, District Council, County Council and MP to get more action. Police have done some work locally. Report, report, report.
Smell of drugs
This is a tricky one. Police might do a spot check but this really is not a priority. Many people report that they can’t spend time outside as the smell is too strong.
Might people consider proposing a voluntary code? Is there an hour slot people could agree it was acceptable for smoking drugs on the basis there were agreed smoke free times? It could only work by gentle agreement but currently the smell is really overwhelming for some people and makes them feel they have to spend all their time inside with windows closed. It would be nice to find a workable solution, it will never be enforceable but people were prepared to give and take could there be a solution?
