Darwin Green Secondary School

When I attended a budget meeting early this year I was excited to see money set aside for a new Darwin Green Secondary School being delivered over the next two financial years and opening at that time. Since that time the start date has slipped back by a number of years with rumours that the school is now not due to open until after 2030. We are struggling to understand why.

Council Officers have failed to keep Councillors or the community updated about the reasons for the slippage and no one is providing answers. There are rumours that the developer is refusing to hand over the land.

This is simply not acceptable. Every year children living in the north of the Cambridge city area are being allocated secondary school places outside the city. We need secondary school numbers that keep up with population growth and promised schools to be delivered now.

This is a petition written by my colleague Cllr Rory Clark. He is calling on the developers to release the land whether that is the cause or not signatures on the petition allow us to present a stronger case to the County Council and the developers of the urgent need for new secondary school provision and that delays are not acceptable.
